Discovering syrah, a grape variety with character
Syrah, the balance between power and elegance
Among the grape varieties that shape the identity of the great wines of the South of France, Syrah occupies a prominent place. Known for its aromatic depth and beautiful structure, it is a staple of Mediterranean terroirs.
Native to the Rhône Valley, it thrives particularly well in Languedoc and on the stony soils of sun-drenched hillsides. Resistant to wind and summer heat, it produces powerful, elegant, and highly complex wines.
Intense and spicy aromas
Syrah is an expressive grape variety. It is distinguished by its notes of black fruits—blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry—often accompanied by a hint of pepper, licorice, and sometimes violet. With age, it develops more complex nuances, evoking leather, cocoa, and even smoky notes. While it can be vinified on its own, it is also frequently blended with other Mediterranean grape varieties, notably Grenache and Mourvèdre, which provide roundness and structure, respectively.
