The Bertrand family
Story of a family passion for the vine
Who is Gérard Bertrand?
The quest for excellence while respecting biodiversity and the principles of biodynamics
The birth of a passion for wine and biodynamics
It was in 1975, in the vineyards of Château de Villemajou , in the heart of the Corbières , that Gérard Bertrand carried out his first grape harvests and discovered his passion for wine.
He perfected his training for twelve years alongside his father Georges Bertrand.
Today we are the fourth generation of winegrowers, Paule has Georges , then Gerard Bertrand and finally Emma & Mathias .
Very attached to the values of performance and excellence learned on the rugby fields, Gerard Bertrand continues its quest: to reveal the best terroirs of its region and promote them throughout the world.
It was in this spirit that he took over the family torch at Domaine de Villemajou after the accidental death of his father in 1987. Five years later, he created the wine company Gerard Bertrand in order to develop a range of wines from the South of France .
In the following years he will buy back the Cigalus Estate and the Laville Bertrou Castle .
New nuggets and the enrichment of the diversity of Gérard Bertrand wines
The acquisition in 2002 of the Château l'Hospitalet , in the natural park of La Clape , between Roman Narbonne and the Mediterranean, allows Gerard Bertrand to acquire a new dimension.
Since then, the beautiful story continues and new gems from the emblematic terroirs of Languedoc have come to enrich the vision and diversity of Gérard Bertrand wines: Eagle Estate , The Sauvageonne Castle , Soujeole Castle , Clos d'Ora , Temple enclosure , Karantes Castle , Château Aigues-Vives, the Cap Insula winery, Château des 2 Rocs, Château de Tarailhan and Estagnère Estate .
